Leaks at joints

Challenge
A customer manufactures big vacuum apparatuses. As a result of the big dimensions he has been using joint-vulcanized o-rings as static seals in his housings so far. The o-rings produced with this manufacturing process have much higher tolerances regarding the cord thickness and have to be manually finished at the joint which leads to intolerable leakage in the vacuum application.

Solution
I
n order to remedy the leaks and to ensure proper operation of the equipment, the o-rings are now produced endlessly in a specially developed mould-based segment vulcanisation process. With this process, the required tolerances in the cord diameter can be maintained and the joint is eliminated

Result & Conclusion
Thanks to the changeover to an optimised manufacturing process, the service life of the units has been considerably improved. Since then, they have been running trouble-free and without leaks.
